Birth*Robert Daniel HIGDON was born about 1815 in North Carolina; In April 1873 deposition he states he is 53 years old, which indicates a birth date of c1820. Federal Census records show Robert D. Higdon as follows; 1850 census born in South Carolina about 1814, 1860 census born in Georgia about 1810, 1870 census born in Georgia about 1814 and the 1880 census born in North Carolina about 1815. Using the information in Daniel Hidgon's revolutionary war pension application (Robert Daniel Higdons father), it appears to me that Robert Daniel was born in North Carolina.3 
He was the son of Daniel HIGDON and Mary BRYANT.1,2 
Marriage*Robert Daniel HIGDON married Lettie Mary Ann HEARNE, daughter of Elisha HEARNE, about 1836 in Georgia.2,4 
Census 1840*Robert Daniel HIGDON appeared on the census of 1840 in District 921, Muscogee, Georgia, Robt D Higdon, Males under 5 2, 5-9 1, 20-29 1, Females under 5 2, 20-29 2.5 
Census 1850*He appeared on the census of 9 November 1850 in Talladega, Talladega, Alabama; Robt D Higdon 36, Letty M. 36, Thomas 13, Caroline 11, Joseph 9, Jefferson 6, Doctor R. 8/12.2
Census 1855 - AL* Robert Higdon appeared in the 1855 Alabama Census for Franklin County. Males over 21 1, Females over 21, Total White over 21, no children between 8 and 16. Robert is listed next to a Malida Higdon, Males under 21 3, Females 21+ 1. There is a Allen Higdon listed on next page. - FSL #4808464 image 16.
Census 1860*He was Head of Household on 18 July 1860 in Northern Division, Talladega, Alabama. R. D. Hegden 50 , L. 50 female, J. 18 male, D. R. 12 male, S. 5 female, D. 3 female. Living next to Robert is F. Blankenship 24, E. Blankenship 20 and A. O. Blankenship 7/12.6

Residence*He lived in 1863; In the fall of 1863 Robert D. Higdon moved to Illinois to avoid joining the Confederate Army. 
Census*He appeared on the 1866 Alabama census of 1866 in Talladega, Alabama. R. D. Higdon, males: 10-20 1, 20-30 1, 50-60 1, females: under 10 2, 10-20 1, 20-30 1, 40-50 1. Robert D. Higdon is listed next to J. E. Higdon.
Census 1870*He was Head of Household on 14 June 1870 in Ward 2, Jackson, Louisiana, R D Higdon 56, L M 56, A A 13 Female, E Blankenship 31 Female (born Georgia - this is Caroline from 1850 census), M. Blankenship (12 female born Alabama), J Blankenship (8 male born Alabama). The 8 year old J. Blankenship may be the 18 year old John Blankenship that married Sena Higdon in 1879.7

Residence*He and Lettie Mary Ann HEARNE lived in April 1873 in Tishomingo, Mississippi. 
Court Record*On 4 April 1873, Robert D. Higdon and his wife Mary Ann gave depositions regarding the war years and his claims for payment of war debts. Robert is 53 and Mary Ann is 51. Robert D. Higdon and his family were living in Eastport, Mississippi until March 1862 then moved to Franklin County, Alabama and then to Brooklyn, Illinois in the fall of 1863 to avoid the war and they did not return until after the war ended. Robert would not fire a gun for the Confederacy. He also mentions Phillip Higdon and Allen Higdon. - Southern Claims, Tishomingo, Mississippi. FSL #110698886 image 1-24. 
Death Spouse*His wife, Lettie Mary Ann Hearne, died before 1877. 
Marriage*Robert Daniel HIGDON married Calpurnia BAKER on 26 March 1877 in Lincoln, Louisiana. Calpurnia Baker was a 36 year old widow with several young children.8
Census 1880*Robert Daniel HIGDON appeared on the census of 15 June 1880 in 3rd Ward, Lincoln, Louisiana, Robert D. Higdon 65, Caferny 38, Armilda 7, William 2, Emma E. 1. Listed next to Mary J. Higdon and family and Thomas Higdon and family.9
