Hairston - Patty

A wedding of much suprise to their friends was solemnized on Sunday afternoon at 5 o'clock at the home of Mr. P. C. Hairston, on South Third street, when Mr. G. W. Hairston, Jr., of Crawford, and Miss Corinne Patty, of Macon, were married. The ceremony was performed by Rev. R. B. Eggleston, pastor of the First Presbyterian church. The couple motored to this city, having been accompanied by a number of friends. The bride, who is a member of a prominent Noxubee county family, is a most attractive young lady. The groom is a prominent young planter of the southwestern section of the county, being a son of Mr. G. W. Photo Below - George W. Hairston, Jr. standing next to his father's 1925 Packard sedan. The story is that George Sr. told George Jr. to go to Memphis and buy a large Packard sedan, but George got to Memphis and brought back a new Duesenberg. Upon his return to Crawford, his father told him to take the car back to Memphis and get a Packard - which he did.

Death Spouse*George's wife, Mary Corine Patty, died October 23, 1968. He missed her dearly, the woman he always called "Babe". In later years he seemed to have trouble hearing female voices, but I remember when Corine called him for supper, he would yell out "Coming Babe".

Former Mayor of Crawford Dies Here

George W. Hairston, Jr., 85, of Crawford, died Wednesday afternoon in a local hospital. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Gunter and Holmes Funeral Home.
A native of Crawford, he was the son of the late George W. and Virginia Ervin Hairston Sr. He was a former Mayor of Crawford and a member of the Crawford Presbyterian Church.
He leaves two sons, George W. Hairston III of Columbus and Robert Ervin Hairston of Miami, Fla; one brother, Brown Hairston, Cocoa Beach, Fla. and one sister, Mrs. B. W. Cotton, Starkville.
