He was the son of Peter HAIRSTON and Mattie Martha BAKER.

Military*On 28 July 1883, Lewis Hairston, 66 years old, appeared before a Justice of the Peace in Pike County, Arkansas, states the following: "For 2 years immediately preceding my enlistment into service of the United States on the 10 day of Sept. 1831 I resided in the following named places: Cobb Ga 13 1841. On the 10 day of April 1841 removed to Arkansas lived in Washita, Dallas and Pike county and that my occupation has been from 1834 to 1841 Blacksmith, from 1841 to 1866 Farmer." 
Death*He died on 1 November 1888 at age 71.1 
Burial*He was buried in Macedonia Cemetery, Hempstead, Arkansas.1 
MilitarySarah Ann Chandler Hairston Creed, remarried widow of Lewis Hairston, filed a pension claim regarding Lewis Hairston fighting the Florida Indain Wars with Anderson's Company of Georgia Volunteers. The General Affidavit filed by Sarah A. Hairston on 8 April 1895 in Nevada County, Arkansas, states that Malinda Hairston, the first wife of Lewis Hairston, died on 1 February 1855.
