Memphis

After a long and adventurous life, Martha Carroll McGuire, 92, entered heavens gates peacefully on December 17th, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, I.W. "Dan" McGuire, Jr; her son, Warner and daughter, Carroll. She is survived by her sister, Miriam Hightower, of Atlanta; daughter, Cheryl Parker; son, Kelly (Judi); granddaughter, Madison (Will); grandsons, Myles and McLane; and great-grandson Dawson.

Martha graduated from Southwestern (now Rhodes College) in 1948. She was a stewardess for Chicago & Southern Airlines (pre-Delta) working DC-3's to Jamaica, Venezuela, and Havana, Cuba. She was later active in the English Speaking Union, Kings Daughters and Sons (her last home), Memphi Society and Memphis Symphony League (President). She taught bible studies and Brownies to children in her home on Chickasaw Road. Martha was the founding member of the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary. She was active as WOC President at Lindenwood Christian and later attended Independent Presbyterian where she enjoyed hearing the kids recite bible verses at VBS. She also enjoyed packing Christmas baskets for the needy each December.

Martha believed in Faith, Family and Friends. Her great joy was spending time with those she loved at her Kentucky Lake cabin or on Grand Cayman Island in the winters. She even enjoyed Colorado white water rafting in her 70's! She loved to dance and hated to miss a party. She also loved hosting, especially the December 23 annual McGuire Christmas party.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 20 at Memorial Park Funeral Home (5668 Poplar Avenue) from 5-7 p.m. Funeral Services will be Friday, December 21 at Independent Presbyterian Church (4738 Walnut Grove Road) at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Kings Daughters & Sons Home, Church Health or a local charity of your choice.
