Obituary*Jerry Kirby Cole, age 80, died Monday, March 24, 2014, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday April 2, 2014 at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Anne Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to service. The Cole family will receive friends and family at the Lion Hills Golf Club following burial. Jerry was born on Tuesday, October 10, 1933 in Columbus, MS to the late Jerry Gibson and Judith Farrow Cole. He graduated from S.D. Lee High School in 1951 and received his degree in mechanical engineering from Auburn University in 1955. In l957, he served in the U.S. Navy, until he became co-owner along with his brother Charles Cole, of Cole Refrigeration, a business their father started in 1939. Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, glider flying, and scuba diving. One of his favorite Sunday afternoon activities was practicing skeet and trap shooting with his buddies near Steens. While in Colorado during the summer, he cherished taking his family out to the open range in the Rockies for target practice. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Judy Humphries. Survivors include his wife, Wortley Hairston Cole of Columbus; daughter, Kaylyn Cole, Golden, CO; two sons, Kirby Cole, Longmont, CO and Sam Cammack, (Josann), New York, NY; two sisters, Susan Eskridge, Saltillo and Katherine Thompson (Jimmy), Tupelo; brother, Charles Cole (Carolyn), Foley, AL; two grandchildren, Mason Valentine and Aubrey Valentine. The Honorary Pallbearers will be Robert Magers, Scott Magers, Jim Thompson, Cole Magers, Jacob Magers, Keith Cole, Ryan Magers, Howard Sharp, Vernon Gregory, Vic Lancaster, James Walters, Dennis Coleman, and Nick Hairston. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Palmer Home for Children P.O. Box 746 Columbus MS 39703.
