“My flesh and my heart faileth; but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion forever.” Psalm 73:26 Virginia Montague “Monty” Boyd Hatcher passed away April 27, 2011 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus, MS. She was, as always, surrounded by her loving family. She was a wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Monty was born on November 6, 1948 in Columbus at The Doster Hospital to Virginia Burris Boyd Bonner and the late William Craddock Boyd, Jr. She was a lifelong resident of Columbus for over 62 years. Monty was a life member of the Columbus Junior Auxiliary, Town and Country Garden Club and The Pioneer Society of Lowndes County. She was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church and the Juanice Hayes Sunday School Class. She was currently employed at T. E. Lott & Company where she had worked for 40 years. She will be remembered first and foremost for the love she had for her husband, children, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, William Craddock Boyd, Jr., step-father Charley Wesley Bonner and nephew, Jarred Todd Eatman. She leaves behind her husband of almost 41 years, Ronny J. Hatcher; her daughter, Mary Virginia “Jenny” Carroll and her husband, Blake; her son, Forrest Chandler Hatcher; her mother, Virginia Burris Boyd Bonner; her brother, William Craddock Boyd, III; her sisters, Mary Thomas “Tee” Pittman and her husband, Terre and Rebecca Stuart “Becky” Cunningham and her husband, Bill, all of Columbus, MS; her sister- in-law, Beverly Hatcher Delk and her husband, Bruce of Hampton, VA; her uncle, Thomas Oscar Burris, Jr. of Jackson, MS; two nieces, Casey Eatman (Neil) Williams and Emily Elizabeth Swanner; four nephews, Keylon Thomas Pittman, Coby Terrell Pittman, Campton Stuart Pittman and William Craddock (Meredith) Boyd, IV ; two great-nephews, Shay Boyd and J. D. Boyd; four great-nieces, Abby Williams, Emma Williams, Tristen Boyd and McKenzie Boyd. Pallbearers will be Jack Kisner, Ray Crane, Fred Hayslett, John Prince, Sam Bray, Don Harvey and Si Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be the Partners and Employees of T. E. Lott and Company, members of the Town and Country Garden Club and the members of the Juanice Hayes Sunday School Class. Visitation will be Saturday, April 30, 2011 from 5-7pm at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral Services will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, 2011 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Columbus, MS with Brother Ralph Windle officiating. Brother Steve Lammons will assist the services. Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Columbus, MS. Memorials may be made to The Lowndes County Relay for Life, c/o American Cancer Society, 607 W. Main St., Ste. C, Tupelo, MS 38804 or Mt. Zion Baptist Church Educational Scholarship Fund, 1791 Lake Lowndes Road, Columbus, MS 39702.
