Obituary*Death of Prominent Young Man - The Columbus Dispatch, Columbus, Mississippi, September 12, 1907, page 3. (Mississippi Department of Archives and History)

"Mr. Ervin Hairston, whose critical illness was noted in a recent issue of this paper, died last Monday morning at three o'clock at the McKinley Sanatorium on Main street, where he was carried about two weeks ago suffering from a malignant attack of typhoid fever. Mr. Hairsion was ill two weeks at the home of his father, Mr. Geo. W. Hairston, at Crawford, before he was brought to this city, and the change came too late to benefit him, his death resulting at the hour above stated.

Mr. Hairston's death is particularly sad. coming as it did when he had just attained the majesty of manhood, he being in his twenty-first year. He was a son of Mr. George Hairston of Crawford, and he leaves a large circle of friends and devoted relatives to mourn his untimely demise. He was most exemplary and promising young man, and his death cut short a career which promised great service and usefulness in this life.

The body was carried to the Jennings burial ground at Bethel church in the prairie last Monday morning, the interment occurring on Monday afternoon. A large concourse of sorrowing friends attended the sad obsequies. The Dispatch tenders its sympathies in the sorrow which has come to the family, these relatives and friends."

Crawford News - The Columbus Dispatch, Thursday, September 12, 1907, Page 6.

"Our town was thrown into deep sadness on Tuesday morning by news of the death of young Ervin Hairston, which occurred at Dr. McKinley's Sanatorium in Columbus, where he was carried for treatment, his disease being typhoid fever. The whole community sincerely sympathize with the family. Mr. Ervin Hairston is the son of Brown Hairston, one of our best and oldest citizens, by his first marriage, which was to a Miss. Ervin. O, how little Ervin Hairston looked like a subject for disease and death five weks ago. He was the very picture of health, and now he is gone to the bourne from which no traveler ever returns. May the associates of dear Ervin be on their guard and ready for the summons at any time."5
