Obituary*MISS NELLIE KEIRN

Miss Nellie Sutton Keirn, 89, former president of Mississippi University for Women who was associated with the school for 43 years, died in Greenwood Tuesday at the home of her niece, Mrs. C.L. Keirn.

She graduated from the state women's school in 1906 and after doing graduate work at the University of Wisconsin, returned to MUW in 1912 and held numerous faculty and administrative positions until her retirement in 1955.

She served as a professor of geography for eight years and as an assistant in education and psychology. She was made a dean in 1919 and became a vice president in 1925. She was acting president of the university from November 1929 to June, 1930 and from 1932 until her retirement she was academic dean and vice president of MUW which at that time was Mississippi State College for Women.

She was a member of the American Association of University Women, National Education Association and the National Association of Deans of Women.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 29, at Wilson and Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood with burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington.
