Birth*Joseph M. HAIRSTON was born in 1826 in Alabama.1 
He was the son of Hezekiah HAIRSTON and Susan WESTMORELAND.1 
Military*Joined Capt. Issac Powell Ferguson's Co., Texas Mounted Volunteers for duty and enrolled for 12 months as a Private with a $140 horse and $10 in horse equipment. Capt. Fergusson died of yellow fever January 1948 in Mexico City.2 
Death*Joseph M. HAIRSTON died on 13 January 1848 in Mexico City, Mexico,A second entry indicates a death date of "Feb. 8, 1848 at City of Mexico".2 
NOTE*An application for bounty land based upon his service was filed by his brothers, Robert S and John B Hairston in 1850 in Texas. Joseph was in the Company I, 1st Reg. of Texas Calvary. Lived in Houston Co Texas, enlisted at Rusk, Cherokee County, Texas April 1846.1
