Obituary* | James Lamar Hairston, age 65, of Crawford, Miss., passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2003, at his residence. Lamar was born on September 9, 1937, in Columbus and was a descendant of the early settlers of Southwest Lowndes County. He was a retired farmer, retired rural route letter carrier, veteran of the United States Air Force, member of the Crawford United Methodist Church, and the Magowah Gun Club. He was the beloved son of Mary Alice Hollingsworth Hairston Gibson and the late John Peter Hairston; devoted husband of 41 years to Frances Hardwick Hairston; loving father of Lath Hairston (Kaycee Hairston) of West Point, MS, Liza Hairston Kennedy (Will Kennedy) of Carlisle, PA, and Peter Jeff Hairston (Laurie Hairston) of Marietta, GA; brother, Peter Hairston of Mt. Pleasant, TX, Nannette Williams of Calhoun City, MS, Alice Edwards of Crawford, MS, and Watt Hairston of Nashville, TN; and grandfather of Jeff Hairston, Rob Hairston, Elizabeth Kennedy, Tommy Kennedy, and John Peter Hairston. Visitation was held Saturday evening, July 19, 2002 at Memorial Funeral Home in Columbus from 6-8 p.m. and will be held today from 3:30 until the time of services. Services will be today at 4:30 p.m. at Crawford United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Oak Limb Cemetery in Crawford. Pallbearers will be Nick Hairston, Walter "Bubba" Hines, Will Lassister, Bill Williams, Jonathan Williams and Peter Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Eaves, Billy Edwards, Howard Fisackerly, Warren Lassiter, Dr. Walt Porter, Bob Rhett, Billy Swedenburg, Wendy Swedenburg, Jack Weseli, and Doug Yelverton.
